What it does

Your site in more languages, without rebuilding it.

It translates the finished page

  • It translates what the site sends to the visitor: no copies of pages and posts to keep aligned. You keep writing the site in its own language, the others follow.
  • It works with any theme and page builder: block editor, Elementor, GeneratePress and the rest, along with menus, widgets and theme texts.
  • Paragraphs, headings, buttons, image alt text, form placeholders, page title and descriptions for search engines and social media.
  • Sentences with links and bold text are translated whole, and a translation can't add code to the page.
  • Scripts, styles, code and anything marked translate="no" or with the notranslate class stay as they are.

One address per language

  • You choose the main language: on activation it is the WordPress one, and it stays at the site root. Your addresses do not change.
  • Every other language sits under its prefix: /en/, /de/, /fr/…
  • The language comes only from the address: no visitor is redirected elsewhere based on the browser language, and every language has its own addresses for search engines.
  • Changing the main language asks for a confirmation; existing translations stay in the database and come back if you set that language again.

The AI once only, with your key

  • Choose the service you prefer: Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Grok (xAI) or DeepL. The key is yours and you pay the service directly: for a small site, a few cents per language.
  • A guide in the plugin for each service: the link to the keys page, the steps to follow, the cost estimate and the key test.
  • Translations are generated in small batches and saved in the site. Visitors never call the service: pages as fast as before, nothing charged per visit or per word.
  • A text the service cannot translate stays flagged, with the reason, and you can retry or write it by hand: it is never saved as if it were translated.

WordPress Connectors

  • From WordPress 7.0, in Settings → Connectors the site keeps one key for each AI service, for all plugins.
  • If the chosen service (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini or Grok) is connected there, Lobbit Multilingual uses that connection and the key in the plugin is not needed.
  • The option is on by default and switches off in the AI Service tab. DeepL always uses the key saved in the plugin.

Texts under control

  • The scan opens the site's published pages and records their texts; run it again after adding pages or changing texts.
  • An editor lists every text with its translation and status: missing, translated, written by hand, failed. With filters and search.
  • Translations written or corrected by hand are never overwritten by the AI.
  • Texts are recorded by the scan or when an administrator opens a page in another language, never by visitors.

Search engines

  • hreflang links between the languages of each page, with the main language as x-default.
  • The lang attribute, the canonical address, og:url and og:locale follow the page language; titles, descriptions and Open Graph texts from Yoast SEO and Rank Math are translated.
  • One sitemap per language: in the WordPress sitemap and in the sitemap index of Yoast SEO and Rank Math.

Language switcher

  • In the site menus: the theme's own, the Elementor menu widget, and also themes that print the menu links themselves.
  • As a fixed button in one of the four corners of the page.
  • As a block in the editor, or with the shortcode [lobbit_ml_switcher] (dropdown too).
  • The look is chosen in the settings, with a live preview: you will find it further down.
  • A language that is not public yet is visible only to administrators, marked as «preview»: you check it before opening it to visitors.

Glossary (Pro)

  • Terms never to be translated, such as the company or product name.
  • Terms to always translate in the same way, language by language.
  • The glossary is passed to the AI service and applied to every page: just change it, no need to regenerate the translations.

Translated addresses (Pro)

  • Pages, posts and categories get their own address in every language: /en/about-us/ instead of /en/chi-siamo/.
  • You choose it in the editor, in the category edit screen or in the Addresses tab, which fills the empty ones from the translated titles.
  • The old address leads to the new one with a 301 redirect, even when you change a translated slug: links and search engine rankings are not lost.
  • Links, language switcher, hreflang, canonical and sitemap use the translated addresses.

Support

  • In the Information tab, «Ask for support» opens the contact form on this site already filled in: the plugin name as the subject and the site data in the message (plugin, WordPress and PHP versions, theme, languages, AI service).
  • All that is left is to describe the problem, and you can attach a screenshot.
  • Nothing is sent until you press Send on the form; the same data can also be copied with a button.

Language switcher

The switcher the way you want it, in the free version too.

In the switcher settings every choice is shown immediately in the preview, before saving.

What to show

The flag, the code (IT, EN), the language name, or flag and code together.

The right flag

For each language you choose the flag: English with the United Kingdom or the United States, Spanish with Spain or Mexico. The flags are SVG images included in the plugin, never emoji: they look the same on every device.

Colours and shape

Background, text and border colours; corners from square to pill; three sizes.

Fixed button

In one of the four corners, with the distance from the edge you want and the shadow if you want it. At the top, if it would cover the header (full width or on a phone), it moves just below it.

In a row or as a dropdown

The languages side by side, or a dropdown that opens on click, works from the keyboard and closes with Esc or a click outside.

In the menu, with its own settings

In the menu you choose separately what to show (flag, code, name, or flag and code) and the behaviour: languages in a row, or a dropdown with the current language and the others on click. Colours and fonts stay those of the theme.

The dropdown of every theme

The dropdown uses the theme's submenus, with their styling. In themes that print the menu themselves, the plugin adds its own dropdown, which copies the look of the links and the header background; on phones it opens like an accordion. No theme changes needed.

Robust in any theme

Flags and the dropdown arrow have a size of their own: the theme's CSS rules do not squash them or make them disappear.

Free and Pro

You pay for the licence, not for the words.

The free version translates the site into as many languages as you want, by hand or with AI, with a language switcher and SEO: all the features above except translated addresses and glossary. The Pro adds translated addresses, the glossary and support from the developer. In both cases you pay the service for AI translations, with your own key, once only.

How it is used

From installation to the first language online, in five steps.

1. Install and activate

In WordPress go to Plugins → Add new → Upload plugin, choose the plugin zip and activate it. The main language becomes the one of your WordPress; you will find it, along with the rest, in Settings → Multilingual.

The plugin is written in English. The Italian translation is ready and will arrive from translate.wordpress.org once it is published in the WordPress.org directory.

2. Add a language

In the Languages tab you choose the translation language. It stays non-public: only you see it, as an administrator, under its prefix.

3. Collect the texts

In the Translations tab press «Scan the site»: the plugin opens the published pages and lists their texts.

4. Translate

With AI: in the AI Service tab choose the service, follow the guide for the key (or use the WordPress Connectors) and press «Translate missing texts». Or by hand, in the list. Then correct whatever you want: the corrections stay yours.

5. Check and publish

Open the site under /en/ (or the language prefix) as an administrator. When you are happy with it, make the language public in the Languages tab and add the switcher to a menu; you choose how it looks in the Switcher tab.

Shortcode: the language switcher wherever you want

[lobbit_ml_switcher]
[lobbit_ml_switcher style="dropdown"]

wp-config.php: the AI key outside the database

define( 'LOBBIT_ML_KEY_CLAUDE', '…' );
// Also LOBBIT_ML_KEY_OPENAI, LOBBIT_ML_KEY_GEMINI,
// LOBBIT_ML_KEY_GROK, LOBBIT_ML_KEY_DEEPL

HTML: a part of the page not to be translated

<span translate="no">Studio Lobbit</span>
<div class="notranslate">…</div>

When you change a text on a page, for the plugin it is a new text: the page shows it in the main language until you translate it. Run the scan again, or open the page in the other language as an administrator, and translate the new texts.

As fast as before. When a visitor opens a page, the plugin reads the translations with a single database query, without calling external services. Page caches keep working: every language has its own addresses.

What leaves the site. Only when you ask for a translation, from the settings, and only towards the service you chose: the texts to translate and your key. While visitors browse, nothing is sent. Deleting the plugin removes its tables and settings; deactivating it deletes nothing.

What's new

What has changed, version by version.

The same plugin changelog entries, from the most recent version down to the first.

Version 1.7 · 26 October 2026

  • Pro: translated addresses. Pages, posts and categories can have their own slug in every language (/en/about-us/ instead of /en/chi-siamo/), set in the editor, in the category edit screen or in the new Addresses tab, which fills empty slugs from the translated titles.
  • Links, language switcher, hreflang, canonical, og:url and sitemap use the translated addresses; the old address leads to the new one with a 301 redirect, even after changing a translated slug.

Version 1.6 · 26 October 2026

  • No limit on languages: the free version translates your site into as many languages as you want.
  • The services linked in Settings → Connectors are checked with the WordPress AI client.

Version 1.5 · 23 October 2026

  • Freemius SDK updated to 2.13.5.

Version 1.4 · 22 October 2026

  • Free version ready for the WordPress.org directory.

Version 1.3 · 17 October 2026

  • The Pro is purchased and activated from the plugin: the licence is handled by Freemius, the reseller that takes payment and invoices.
  • When a Pro licence expires, the Pro features keep working: only updates and support stop.
  • When you install the Pro, the free version deactivates itself: settings and translations stay as they are.
  • The free version works on its own: the request to share data with Freemius, on activation, can be skipped with «Skip», and no licence is ever checked.

Version 1.2 · 17 October 2026

  • Switcher in the menu with its own settings: what to show (flag, code, name, flag and code) and behaviour (languages in a row, or a dropdown with the current language and the others in its submenu). Colours and fonts stay those of the theme.
  • The menu dropdown uses the theme's submenus: the current language opens the others on click, with Enter or Space, without reloading the page; Esc or a click outside closes it.
  • In themes that print the menu links themselves, the flags appear all the same; with «Dropdown» the plugin adds its own dropdown, which copies the colours, fonts and spacing of the links and the header background, and on a phone it opens accordion-style. No changes to the theme.
  • Sturdier appearance: flags, the dropdown arrow and lists are no longer broken by the theme's CSS rules.
  • Fixed button at the top: if it would cover the header (full width or the menu bar on phones), it is placed just below.

Version 1.1 · 17 October 2026

  • New plugin icon.
  • The switcher appears in the chosen menus even when the theme prints the menu links itself, without wp_nav_menu(). Languages are added only on the site: Appearance → Menus, the Customizer and the REST API do not see them.
  • Links printed one after another (a menu without a list) are now translated one by one rather than as a single sentence, so a menu item has the same translation on every page. After updating, it's worth running the scan again and translating the new entries.
  • New «Switcher appearance» section with live preview, all in the free version: flag, code, name or flag and code; flag chosen for each language; background, text and border colours; rounded corners; size; corner and distance of the fixed button; shadow; languages in a row or dropdown, which also works from the keyboard.
  • SVG flags included in the plugin, never emoji.

Version 1.0 · 17 October 2026

  • First version.
  • Main language chosen by you: on activation it's the WordPress language and it sits at the site root; the other languages under their prefix (/en/, /de/…). Changing it asks for a confirmation, and existing translations stay in the database.
  • Full page translation: block editor, Elementor, GeneratePress, menus, widgets, title, meta description and Open Graph texts. Sentences with links and bold text are translated as a whole, and a translation cannot add code.
  • Catalogue in the database, with the main-language sentence as the key. The texts are recorded by the site scan or by an administrator opening a page in another language, never by visitors.
  • Batch generation with your own key: Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, DeepL. Failed entries are flagged with the reason and retried; hand-written translations are never overwritten.
  • A guide for each service: link to the keys page, steps to follow, cost estimate, key test.
  • WordPress Connectors (7.0+), on by default: if the chosen service is connected in Settings → Connectors, the key in the plugin is not needed. DeepL always uses the plugin's key.
  • SEO: hreflang with x-default, lang, canonical, og:url and og:locale in the language of the page; one sitemap per language in the WordPress sitemap and in the Yoast SEO and Rank Math index.
  • Language switcher: in menus (including Elementor's menu widget), as a fixed button, as a block and as a shortcode [lobbit_ml_switcher].
  • Non-public languages visible only to administrators, as a preview.
  • Glossary (Pro), applied to every page and passed to the AI service.
  • Information tab with pre-filled support details and a Copy button.
